PRINCIPLE OF THE PEOPLES' RIGHT FOR SELF-DETERMINATION IS A TRAP FOR ARMENIA: POLITICAL EXPERT

ArmInfo. The principle of the peoples' right for self-determination,
which is much spoken about coupled with the territorial integrity,
is an ordinary trap for the Armenian party regarding Nagorno Karabakh
issue, political expert, Doctor of Philosophical Sciences, professor
of Yerevan State University Alexander Manasyan told journalists today.

"I am sure it is so, since we have a more important and persuasive
argument. The Nagorno Karabakh Republic self-determined in 1991 at
the territories not belonging to Azerbaijan de jure. We ourselves
replaced this important argument by a principle of the peoples'
right for self-determination, that automatically means that Nagorno
Karabakh is part of the Azerbaijani state, while it is far from truth",
he said. In view of this, Manasyan called on the Armenian party to
avoid mentioning this too dangerous formula and change the accents
    in the settlement.

The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict broke out on February 28 1988 in the
Azerbaijani Sumgait with massacre of Armenians as a peculiar response
of Azerbaijanis to the peaceful demand of the Nagorno-Karabakh
autonomous Region, part of the Azerbaijani SSR, to unite with the
Armenian SSR. This resulted in other pogroms of Armenians in Baku,
Kirovabad and other regions of Azerbaijan populated with Armenians.

Dozens of thousands of peaceful residents on both parties were killed
in the military actions, and hundreds of thousands were left homeless
    and have become refugees.
