    S. MKRTCHYAN: TEXTBOOKS QUALITY SHOULD BE IMPROVED

    Aysor
    June 15 2010
    Armenia

"We are going to improve the quality of textbooks and teaching
literature," Tatev Scientific-Educational Complex Director, Zangak-97
Publishing House Director Sokrat Lazarian told reporters when speaking
    about textbook quality.

    S. Lazarian divided the textbook creation process in independent
Armenia into two stages - the first is the period up to the present
when textbook creation was being established, the second is the coming
period when textbook quality should be improved.

"I think within the coming 2 or 3 years we will be able to raise
textbook creation to a level to satisfy specialists, society and
children," the publisher stressed adding that they have already
    launched the works.

The Tatev Scientific-Educational Complex organizes discussions -
both roundtables and online disputes - to work out criteria of making
up a textbook. The Complex also plans holding meetings and seminars
with textbook authors and creative group other members.

"So far, there have been criteria of textbook evaluation and the
Education and Science Ministry had criteria for competitions, while
we try to work out criteria of making up textbooks," S. Lazarian
said adding that this function concerns publishers who after textbook
creation submit them to proper state structure for approval.
