    REVOLUTION IS LOVE
    SIRANUISH PAPYAN

    08/07/2010

Lragir.am held an interview with the theatrical critic and publicist
Ara Nedolyan. He had announced earlier that the current situation in
Armenia reminds him of the year 88 but now we must act differently
because in 1988 we failed to make the right choice. Like in 88, the
Armenian nation always thinks about the Armenian people, the Armenian
state, he says. It never tries to assume responsibility as well as
the right to think also for those with whom we have to deal with,
to take care of them. The result was the war. And Ashot Manucharyan
says war is the defeat of politics.

Our politics was defeated because it did not apply to the bigger plot,
that is Perestroika, the collapse of the Soviet Union and the idea of
reconstruction which Gorbachev set forth. In answer to the question if
the recent border incident in Chailu comes to prove Ashot Manucharyan's
point, Ara Nedolyan says now he cannot discern the tendency to rise
to a higher thinking and think from the position of Turkey and the
Turkish society, Azerbaijan and the Azerbaijani society.

He says it is clear that this is a sensitive historical issue.

Surprisingly, however, without such issues with Georgia, again no
effort was made to think about the problems of Javakheti from the
point of view of the Javakheti Armenians, Armenians and Georgians,
to start a dialogue with the Georgian society, to say something which
would interest the Georgian society and inspire it into a dialogue.

Likewise, no effort is made to support the Russian society which
is facing the dilemma, to fight the authoritarian, oligarchic or
totalitarian system or not to fight. Every time Armenia stands a
chance to teach something to Russia and misses this chance.

Unfortunately, he says, we deal with the governments, international
strategic centers, rather than societies. Raphael Ghazaryan wrote in
his book that in 1988 the representatives of the Soviet society came
to help, because they realized the liberating nature of the Movement,
which liberated them as well, while the KGB circles played their
game, reduced the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict to war, solved their
    political or geopolitical problems.

Now no society will respond to us. The only vivid instance is the
human rights activists brought to the square by the youth wing of
the Armenian National Congress. Ara again cites Ashot Manucharyan who
says Levon Ter-Petrosyan can connect the square, while the liberation
Movement can do more, it can connect the societies and progressive
forces of the world, create a growing system of external resonance,
which can shortly become more important political factor than the
    ambitions of the government centers.

Who should arrive at the consciousness of it, the government or the
opposition? Ara Nedolyan says we must clarify that in our interviews
we speak about living people, not the dead people, that is the
government. By whom is this consciousness born in the Movement? Listen
to the words of the representative of the ANC youth wing Ashkhen
Grigoryan. She says "look and see, EVERYTHING HAS CHANGED, we are
coming, with happy and free, light steps". This fundamental change,
the Cultural Revolution, is that revolution is love and freedom. The
slogan of the revolution of 1968 was love against hatred.

Relying on people with somber faces ruined the Movement of 88 and
resulted in the war. Tragic things happened, the embodiments of the
light side of the movement were killed, Vitya Aivazyan, Chavush,
Arthur Mkrtichyan, instead Serge, Robert, Samvel Babayan got power.

They fundamentally defeated the Movement, and the Armenian politics
in general. The result was the criminal-nationalist pseudo-state.

Ara Nedolyan says the present Movement can be entrusted to the part
of the society who can think and speak with the spirit of live and
freedom. External issues are waiting and will wait as long as it
is needed. In regard to major issues, the moment of truth is fixed
and kept as status quo until a new moment of truth. The time we
are living in now is not our time. It is the time of the neutral
world. It is the neutral time created in 1945. We produced our own
time of 88-92, then we stopped producing our time, 92-2008 was a
period of stagnation. As soon as you produce your time, the world
    helps you achieve your purpose.
