Airport in Khankendi illegal - UN resident-coordinator
    Sat 02 April 2011 07:19 GMT | 10:19 Local Time

'If United Nation's relevant agency has not passed decision to open
airport in Khankendi and implement flights there, it is illegal'.
The statement came from UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan Fikret Akcura.

Resident Coordinator reminded the UN's agency on each sphere and noted
that UN's International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) operated on
    air transport sphere:

'UN's this agency must pass a decision related to newly-opened air
corridor. I don't know the agency had made statement on this issue or
not. This step is not allowed without their permission. If it has not
been allowed, so, it is illegal'.

Akcura also said 'Nagorno Karabakh is a very important issue for Azerbaijan'.

The resident coordinator said the new resolutions of the UN were being
implemented, while the resolutions on Nagorno Karabakh had not been
    implemented yet.

'Azerbaijan, European institutions must be more active so that they
are implemented. One million refugees, internally displaced persons
are in hard conditions. People have been displaced from their homes
for 20 years. A solution must be found for them,' he said.

The implementation of Resolution 1937 adopted by the UN Security
Council regarding Libya on March 17 this year started immediately. The
Security Council's four resolutions demanding Armenians' withdrawal
from the occupied Azerbaijani territories have not been implemented
    for 20 years.
