President Grybauskaite: Lithuania Ready To Make Investments In Armenia

YEREVAN, May 4. /ARKA/. Lithuania is ready to make investments in
Armenia, Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite said Wednesday in
Yerevan at a joint briefing with her Armenian counterpart Serzh
    Sargsyan.

She gave a high mark to political relations between the two countries
saying that economic ties still have room for development.

The Lithuanian president said that both countries declared their
    independence at the same time.

She said that the two countries have plenty in common though the ways
the countries have passed over 20 years of independence differ from
    each other.

Serzh Sargsyan, in return, said that after declaration of independence
the two countries' relations developed dynamically.

`Armenia views Lithuania as friendly country and reliable partner,' he
said adding that ties between the two countries are becoming closer
    from year to year.

The countries are expanding their relationship finding new grounds for
    cooperation.

Sargsyan said that a wide range of issues has been discussed at the meeting.

He also thanked Grybauskaite for a unanimous recognition of the fact
of Armenian Genocide by the Lithuanian Parliament.

He said that Lithuanians reacted to a massacre in Ottoman Empire in
the end of 19 century by publishing articles about Armenian history
and culture and stressing similarity of Armenian and Lithuanian
    nations' fates.

Taking into account the common historical past, Sargsyan stressed the
importance of usage of Lithuania's experience in state-building
    process and European integration.

`I pointed out cooperation among Balkan countries as a successful
model and voiced regret at not being able to use this experience in
our region, since Azerbaijan keeps widening the gap it creates, the
gap that seems so alien in 21 century,' he said.

Lithuania's chairmanship in OSCE was discussed as well.

The Armenian president also expressed appreciation of Lithuanian
leadership's efforts to settle Karabakh conflict by peaceful means.

Grybauskaite arrived in Yerevan on Wednesday after touring Georgia and
    Azerbaijan. --0--
