ARMENIA STRENGTHENS THE CONTROL OVER THE IMPORTED TOMATOES TO THE COUNTRY

    YEREVAN

Inspection on the security of products of Armenia strengthened the
control over the tomatoes imported to the country, said Armenian
Agriculture Minister Sergo Karapetyan in the government hour of the
    parliament on Wednesday.

Representatives of greenhouses of Armenia applied to the State
Commission on the Protection of Economic Competition (SCPEC) with
the complaint on the unequal competitive conditions of the imported
vegetables, particularly tomatoes imported from Turkey. Imported
vegetables are sold by lower prices which hinders the activity of the
local manufacturer. In this regard, SCPEC plans to study the activity
of the companies importing vegetables from Turkey.

Karapetyan said that State Revenue Committee of Armenia ensures that
there are no problems of unofficial import of tomatoes in the country.

As for the prices, the minister said that the market is regulating
gradually and the government is not interfering in this process. It
defines strong control over the quality of the imported tomatoes
which influences on the import volume.

Greenhouses in Armenia are developing and it is expected that their
territories will be cultivated in the nearest future.
