ALLAN HANCOCK COLLEGE CONCERT BAND TO PERFORM "THE ARMENIAN DANCES"

Director Greg Stoll will lead the Allan Hancock College Concert Band
in its last performance of the 2010-11 season on Saturday, May 14,
    in Santa Maria, CA.

A special feature of the evening's musical selections will be a
performance of "Deep River" (arrangement by Luther Henderson,) a
traditional Black Gospel featuring five tuba players including Band
    Director Emeritus Gary Thompson.

Other highlights include Rossini's "The William Tell Overture." This
classical overture, more popularly known as the theme for the Lone
Ranger TV and movie series, will give the woodwind section a real
    workout.

Continuing in a semi-classical mode, "The Armenian Dances," by Alfred
Reed, is a time-honored band work. Contemporary band numbers will
include "Novena" by James Swearingen and "Sedona" by Steven Reineke.

Rounding out the concert are two audience favorites: "Big Band
Showcase" (arrangement by Bob Lowden), which brings to mind music of
the 1940s dance bands, and selections arranged by Warren Baker from
"The Phantom of the Opera," one of the most famous Broadway musicals,
    syvnews.com reported.
