POLAND'S AMBASSADOR ARMENIA -EU ASSOCIATION TALKS MOVE FORWARD SUCCESSFULLY

YEREVAN, May 12, /ARKA/. Poland's ambassador to Armenia, Zdzislaw
Raczynski, said today there was a "good progress" in the ongoing
Armenia-EU negotiations on an association agreement meant to
significantly deepen Armenia's political, economic and other links
    with the European Union.

Speaking at a news conference the ambassador said to the best of
his knowledge 18 provisions of the total 34 have been adjusted and
reconciled. According to him, the majority of remaining provisions
are about creating a permanent free trade regime and in this sense
there are still some problems linked with the structure of Armenia's
    economy which is extremely monopolized.

The association between Armenia and EU talks were formally opened in
2010 July 19. The agreement stems from the EU's Eastern Partnership
program covering six ex-Soviet states, including neighbouring Georgia
    and Azerbaijan.

The agreement would entitle Armenia to a permanent free trade regime
with the EU and facilitate visa procedures for its citizens travelng
to Europe. The EU says democratization, human rights protection
and a stronger rule of law are necessary conditions for Armenia's
    participation in the Eastern Partnership.
