ORANGE ARMENIA INCREASE CAPACITY, SPEED OF MOBILE INTERNET OFFERINGS
    BYLINE: Michael Lacquiere

    Global Insight
    June 1, 2011

Orange Armenia has announced increases to the volume and speeds of its
unlimited mobile internet packages. From today (1 June) subscribers
to the 6,000 dram (USD15.9) monthly plan will be entitled to 2 GB of
traffic, rather than 1 GB; subscribers to the AMD6,000 plan will be
entitled to 6GB rather than 4 GB; subscribers to the AMD11,000 plan
will be entitled to 11 GB rather than 8 GB; and subscribers to the
AMD20,000 plan will be entitled to 24 GB, rather than 20 GB. As well
as this, mobile internet speeds will also increase by 50--100%.

Customers of the AMD6,000 plan will have speeds increase from 128
Kbps to 256 Kbps, while all other subscribers will experience speeds
of 384 Kbps, from 256 Kbps.

Significance:The move is an aggressive one from Orange. Having
previously introduced low-cost tariffs for its GSM services, and
achieved the desired effect of unbalancing its larger rivals in the
process, the operator is now offering similarly low-priced services in
the mobile internet sector. Orange is a long way off market-leading
Vivacell-MTS and Armentel in the voice market, but with Armenia's
lucrative mobile internet market still at a relatively nascent stage,
it has the opportunity to establish itself as a major player.
