KAREKIN II: "OUR MEETING WOULD HELP TO FIND A SOLUTION TO PROBLEMS"
    By Marietta Khachatrian

    AZG DAILY
    14-06-2011

His Holiness Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II pays
inter-church and pontifical visit to Georgia at the invitation of
the Catholicos-Patriarch of the Georgian Orthodox Church Ilia II.

Eventually the postponed visit of the Catholicos took place. The
Georgian Patriarch and priests, as well as representatives of the
Armenian communities of Tbilisi and Marneul met Karekin II and the
Armenian delegation at the Armenian-Georgian border point Sadakhlo.

His Holiness Catholicos of All Armenians addressed to the Georgian
Patriarch and people present there: "We are happy that our visit
to Georgia is welcomed cordially by the Armenian and Georgian
parishioners. Your smiling faces and eyes speak on the joy
with which you came to meet your Patriarchs." Then the Georgian
Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II greeted Karekin II and talked about the
friendship of the two nations. The two delegations went to Tbilisi
for an official reception ceremony organized by Ilia in Tbilisi's
Saint Trinity cathedral. After greeting each other the two Patriarchs
uttered a prayer. His Holiness Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II
blessed the priests and people on this occasion. Thanking the God for
the meeting Karekin II said: "We visit Georgia at your invitation and
for paying a Patriarchal visit to the Georgian Armenian Diocese. We
would live these days praying together with your Holliness and meet
with the followers of our churches by visiting Armenian and Georgian
churches and monasteries. We are going to discuss issues preoccupying
our churches and talk about ways of strengthening our cooperation. We
have come here with a robust spirit and a belief that our meeting will
strengthen the centuries-old brotherhood and friendship of our peoples
and find a solution to problems Georgian Armenians are concerned over,
as well as to overcome our concerns and difficulties for the sake of
the only one that was sent to us by God."
