YEREVAN. - 183kg of human hair with total customs value of $2000
(around $11 per each kg) has been imported to Armenia in 2010 says
the official statistical data.
First quarter of 2011 did not register hair import. However,
hairdresser salons say the business is not gone from Armenia. Figures
on the cost of imported hair provided by customs service have nothing
to do with reality. According to the director of one of beauty salons,
imported hair is 2.5 times more expensive than local one.
Firstly, imported hair has at least 60cm in length and costs AMD
100,000, while local hair costs AMD 40 thousand. Armenia does not
export hair so far. The local demand for it is high and is barely
met through internal resources. It is noteworthy that no organized
promotion on right cultivation and care of hair exists, while in
other countries it is quite usual.
