The National Association for Armenian Studies and Research organized
a panel discussion at the Public Library on "The State of Armenian
Genocide Research and Future Needs" on June 14.

Main speakers at the event were Professor Richard Giragosian, Head
of the Armenian History Chair at the California University, and Taner
Akcam, holder of Kaloosdian/Mugar Chair in Armenian Genocide Studies
    at Clark University.

It became clear from the speeches that what has been done up until
now is not enough to exclude the attempts of denying the Armenian
Genocide. The Turkish historian said to be particularly worried about
the fact that eight years ago Turkey worked out and implemented a
program, which allows them to counterbalance the studies of Armenian
    researchers in the US.

"There are no young forces to study the Armenian Genocide. Age becomes
an important factor. Who will continue this work, when Richard and
    I retire?" Taner Akcam said.

Richard Giragosian confirmed the sad fact, adding that even Armenian
students avoid specializing in the field fearing that they will find
    no job in the future.
