UNESCO HAS BECOME A TOOL OF THE FINANCIAL ELITE
    By Nerses Arabian

    Paris

On June 15, at 18:30, UNESCO headquarters in Paris hosted an
exhibition on the art of khachkar. The event was sponsored by the
Armenian Ambassador to France Vigen Chitechian and Armenian Permanent
Ambassador to UNESCO Charles Aznavour (he was not present). Many
people came to enjoy the beautiful photos of khachkars. And we were so
surprised when we noticed that nowhere was mentioned about the sites,
where those masterpieces of art were made.

Khachkar is a unique symbol of the Armenian ancient culture. Other
nations cannot be proud of having such exquisite works in their
cultural heritage. Khachkars are the soul of Armenian people. And not
mentioning the sites where the khachkars were made means to deny the
presence of the Armenians in those sites.

Art and culture are universal values that UNESCO has to defend and
represent to the whole world. What kind of external force may force
this authoritative institution to refuse its slogan? Maybe the oil
revenues could serve the destruction of artifacts in the Armenian
lands occupied by Azerbaijan. In 2005, the Azerbaijani destructed
boundless Armenian cemeteries in Nakhichevan including the Armenian
cemetery of Jugha with its khachkars.

At that time, despite numerous complaints, UNESCO did not even try
to prevent the destruction of Armenian culture, which has global value.

The scientists keep the rare and disappeared samples in formalin in
the laboratories. The Azerbaijani, perhaps, think that if they keep
some of the Armenian works in oil, they could pretend to speak about
    the Azerbaijani culture.

Turkey, in its turn, misappropriated Byzantine, Greek and Armenian
cultures, in order to create its national culture. In trading the
power of money dominates all human values (moral, spiritual, and
cultural). The hawking does not recognize those human values and
submits only to the law of interests. Is it possible to hope that
UNESCO would be superior to these financial values?

Proverb says that at first the head of the fish becomes rotten.

Ordinary citizens smell the tail of a fish and ask themselves:
"If the rotten smell reached to the tail?"

Today we ask ourselves; "If the power of money that is received from
the oil trade could affect such an organization as UNESCO is?"
