ARMENIAN AUTHORITIES ENGAGED IN IMITATION OF DIALOGUE - OPPOSITION

YEREVAN. - Oppositional Armenian National Congress (ANC) issued a
statement demanding punishment for the responsible in hampering spread
of notifications on ANC rallies and the work of public transport.

"On July 19 Armenian National Congress came up with demands that could
significantly facilitate the dialogue process. If live coverage of
the dialogue or 30 minutes of broadcasting for ANC after each session
would be a direct manifestation of good will, lifting the ban on
public television and other TV channels to broadcast information on
ANC rallies is a claim drawing its authenticity from the Constitution
itself. It would be realized in any law-abiding country.

However, it appears that even in the circumstances of dialogue, the
ruling coalition continues to show contempt towards the Constitution
and existing laws. An acute evidence of this is the attack of police
on young people spreading leaflets about the coming ANC rally. Another
evidence of this is the total paralysis of public transportation in
the regions of Armenia, which was largely covered by the media. The
data collected on this issue by our agencies will be conveyed to
    the authorities.

This position of the authorities deepens the suspicion that the
Coalition is engaged in mere imitation of a dialogue and is not apt
to implement those demands of the opposition that are directly derived
    from the Constitution and Laws.

ANC delegation insists on immediate steps towards punishment of those
responsible in illegal actions. Hereby we will regain confidence in
the dialogue process and will see solid grounds for its efficiency,
    reads the ANC statement.
