    TURKISH-AZERI INFORMATIONAL ATTACK AGAINST ARMENIA

    AZG Armenian Daily #088, 18/05/2005

    Armenia-CE

In Warsaw Erdogan Calls for Yerevan 'To Look ahead, Instead of Looking
    into Archives'

Turkish Prime Minister dedicated his speech at the CE Summit to
"the so-called genocide" as he said. Erdogan was obviously annoyed
and concerned about the extract in the speech of Robert Kocharian
that touched upon the Armenian Genocide in 1915.

"One should look ahead and not look into the archives. The so-called
genocide goes back to the times of the Ottoman Empire," Erdogan
said. Though afterwards, he stated that the archives of Turkey
    are open.

"Let~Rs pay attention to the facts. The archives of Turkey are open,
the military archives are open, too. We call for Armenia to open its
archives," Erdogan said, expressing concern that the parliaments of
various countries give in, as a result of lobbying.

The day before Robert Kocharian said that "the efforts to
internationally recognize the Armenian Genocide that took place in
the Ottoman Empire in 1915, are conditioned by the faith in European
values. This year we commemorate the 90th anniversary of the tragic
evens and we are grateful to the states that supported us," he said.

Erdogan said in his speech that the united Europe should be with no
separating lines. It~Rs worth reminding that one of the separating
lines passes along the Armenian~VTurkish border. And that is Turkey
that blocked the border, exerting a blockade over its eastern neighbor
that is a part of Europe.

'We Had no Plans to Meet'

Turkish PM told the journalists after the meeting with Ilham Aliyev
that there had been no plans to meet Robert Kocharian in Warsaw. In
fact, Erdogan confirmed the information spread by the Armenian side
    earlier,

Erdogan made no strict statement on the Nagorno Karabakh issue towards
Armenia after the meeting with Ilham Aliyev. He only said that Turkey
wished that conflict was settled as soon as possible.

    Mamediarov~Rs Speech

The second speech of Ilham Aliyev was envisaged within the framework
of the Summit. Elmar Mamediarov, Azeri foreign minister, talked of
the same things instead of the Azeri President, as the latter was to
hold bilateral meetings. As compared with Aliyev, Mamediarov was more
restrained in his statements. He said that seizure of territories by
force and violation of human rights, as well as the policy of ethnic
cleansing, can~Rt go in line with the European democracy.

He expressed hope that in the united Europe Armenians and Azeris will
co-exist in peace "in the Nagorno Karabakh region of Azerbaijan."

CE Summit without Chirac, Putin, Blair and Berlusconi

Only Gerhard Schroder, Chancellor of Germany, was the only leader
of the powerful countries of Europe that participated in the CE
Summit. The leaders of France, Russia, Great Britain and Italy failed
to participate in the Summit for different reasons.
