NKR OFFICIAL ADVISES TO PREPARE FOR SLOWDOWN IN KARABAKH SETTLEMENT

    PanARMENIAN.Net
    November 1, 2011 - 09:12 AMT

PanARMENIAN.Net - Azerbaijan will take every effort to transfer talks
on Nagorno Karabakh conflict to the UN floor, head of the central
information department at the office of Artsakh President said.

"However, such attempts are doomed to fail. Baku's main goal in the UN
Security Council will be creation of a new direction in Karabakh talks
with involvement of Turkey and other Muslim states in it. And I do
not think the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs will favor this undertaking,"
David Babayan told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter.

He noted that more slowdown of the Karabakh process is expected.

On October 24 Azerbaijan secured a seat on the UN Security Council
in 2012-2013 after Slovenia withdrew from the race following 16
    inconclusive rounds of voting.

Azerbaijan's victory was confirmed when it received 155 votes in the
193-nation UN General Assembly, ensuring that it joins Pakistan,
Morocco, Guatemala and Togo as temporary members of the 15-nation
    council in January.

In a race for the fifth Security Council seat, Azerbaijan and Slovenia
went 10 rounds of voting with no decision. Azerbaijan built some
momentum but was 14 votes short of qualifying for the seat.

Countries are voted onto the Security Council by all 193 UN member
nations. Leaving the council are Brazil, Bosnia and Herzegovina,
    Gabon, Lebanon and Nigeria.
