ARMENIA CONFIRMS INTER RAO UES CEASING NUKE PLANT MANAGEMENT

Armenia's Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources on November 26
confirmed that Russian electric power holding Inter RAO UES was ceasing
managing the Armyanskaya nuclear power plant, RIA Novosti reported.

Inter RAO UES has fulfilled its obligations in regard to the
Armyanskaya nuclear plant and further fulfillment of contracted
obligations is only formal, the ministry said.

Russian business media reported earlier citing sources that Inter RAO
UES was seeking to cease managing the power plant and had begun talks
over transferring management to Russian nuclear power corporation
    Rosatom.

Inter RAO UES has been managing the nuclear plant since 2003, with
the agreement set to expire in 2013. Under the agreement, the power
plant is wholly owned by the Armenian government, while Inter RAO UES
is to ensure the plant's uninterrupted and safe operation and supply
    nuclear fuel.

The ministry said that the termination of the agreement would not
affect the plant's operations, as the actual management of the power
plant was being and would be carried out by the ministry.

The Armyanskaya nuclear plant currently has one power unit with a
capacity of 407.5 megawatts (MW) in operation. The plant produces
around 40%-50% of Armenia's total power output. Armenia currently plans
to build another power plant equipped with a 1,000-MW power unit as
an alternative to the Armyanskaya plant. Construction is slated to
begin in 2011, while the launch of the unit is expected in 2017.
