Nagornyy Karabakh minister slams Karabakh statement by Council of Europe head

Yerevan, 20 May: Nagornyy Karabakh has never been part of independent
Azerbaijan and, therefore, the Nagornyy Karabakh Republic [NKR] is not
its integral part, the NKR foreign minister, Arman Melikyan, has said,
commenting on the statement by Council of Europe Secretary-General
Terry Davis that Nagornyy Karabakh is an integral part of Azerbaijan.
Melikyan said that Terry Davis is mistaken and is misleading the world
community, Mediamax reports. "Nagornyy Karabakh used to be a part of
the Soviet Union and after the collapse of the USSR, it proclaimed
its independence in accordance with international norms.
As for international recognition of the NKR, I am sure that it is a
question of time." Melikyan said.
