The presidential election held in the breakaway Nagorno-Karabakh is an
attempt by the Armenian authorities to disrupt talks over the peaceful
resolution of the Karabakh problem, Azeri Foreign Ministry spokesman
    Elman Abdullayev said.

"This is a provocation by the Armenian government, aimed at
consolidating the status quo and not contributing in any way to the
advancement of the peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh
    conflict," Abdullayev told Interfax.

"Such actions are aimed at disrupting the negotiating process," he said.

Armenia's plans to hold elections in Nagorno-Karabakh, which has not
been recognized by any country, thwart efforts to establish peace and
stability in the region, the diplomat said.

The Karabakh presidential election is due on July 19, Armenian media
    outlets said.
