    Several students from the San Fernando Valley recently took home top
    honors from the Los Angeles County Science Fair, which drew 1,100
    participants from public and private schools.

    First place medals went to 11th-grader Chiyoung Kim from North
    Hollywood Highly Gifted Center for her Earth/Science project titled
    "The Chaotic Triangle".

    Raffi Titizian and Ardo Nashalian, 7th-graders from Holy Martyrs
    Armenian High School won first place medals in Chemistry with their
    project "Burning Calories; How Much Energy Is Stored in Different
    Types of Foods".

    Christian Stewart, 9th-grader from Harvard-Westlake School won a first
    place medal in Engineering Applications with "Low-Cost Autonomous
    Civilian Unmanned Aerial Systems". Stewart also received a Special
    Award from the National Society of Professional Engineers.

    Portola Highly Gifted Magnet 8th-grade student Julie Chung's project
    titled "Which Soil Amendment Retains the Most Water?" won a first
    place medal in Plant Biology.
