Armenian president approves amendments to electoral code

YEREVAN
Armenian President Robert Kocharyan has signed a decree on amending
the Electoral Code, the presidential press service told Mediamax
today.
The Armenian parliament adopted amendments to the Electoral Code on 19
May, Mediamax said. In accordance with the amendments, the number of
the first-past-the-post constituencies in Armenia has been reduced
from 56 to 41.
The procedure of setting up electoral commissions has also been
changed: earlier the president had the right to appoint his three
representatives to each commission, now he may appoint only one.
