Azerbaijan will liberate Nagorno-Karabakh - Baku official
BAKU. July 27
Baku will not make any concessions to Yerevan and will liberate the
occupied territories, Azerbaijan's Deputy Prime Minister Ali Gasanov
said.
"If Armenia does not assume a constructive position, we will liberate
our land within a very short period of time on orders from our supreme
commander-in-chief," Gasanov, who also heads the Azeri State Committee
for Refugees and Displaced Persons, told journalists on Friday.
The Azeri government is now getting ready to tackle issues that will
arise after these territories are liberated, he said.
"It is a program for displaced persons' return, damage calculation and
other issues. We need to be prepared for it," he said.
Speaking at a conference today, Gasanov estimated the damage caused to
Azerbaijan by the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict at more than $100 billion.
"Azerbaijan is running out of patience toward Armenia's unconstructive
position," Gasanov said.
In response to Azerbaijan's request, the United Nations asked Armenia
to permit monitoring on the occupied territories, the deputy premier
said.
"However, Armenians refused to allow this monitoring despite the
absence of control over 560 kilometers of Azerbaijan's border. These
borders are not controlled either by Azerbaijan or the UN. Azerbaijan,
for its part, has been telling the whole world for more than 20 years
that Armenia has been training terrorist groups on the occupied
territories. Armenia has been sending these terrorist groups to
Azerbaijan, Russia, Turkey, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
Terrorist groups have also been sent to Russia and Georgia to incite
ethnic hatred," Gasanov said.
Apart from that, "the occupied territories are used to make drugs and
smuggle them into countries of Europe and Asia," he said.
"The occupied territories serve as a transit route for drugs from
Afghanistan. We have informed certain international structures about
it," Gasanov said.
