  • Russian, Armenian PMs discuss construction of new neclear power unit

Tigran Sargsyan and Dmitry Medvedev discussed construction of new
    neclear power unit in Armenia

    14:43, 29 September, 2012

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 29, ARMENPRESS: The Prime Minister of the Republic
of Armenia Tigran Sargsyan met the Prime Minister of the Russian
Federation Dmitry Medvedev on September 28 in Yalta. The interlocutors
discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral interest.

As Armenpress was reported by the Information and PR Department of the
Government of Armenia, Tigran Sargsyan stated that Armenia considered
the strengthening and extension of relations with Russia to be quite
important. "We are pleased by the dynamics of the relations, but we
believe that there is a bigger potential, which we should use", - said
    the Prime Minister of Armenia.

In his turn, Dmitry Medvedev highlighted the growth of the trade
circulation between Armenia and Russia and expressed his satisfaction
concerning the bilateral trade and economic relations. "We have been
in constant dialogue on all the levels and in this context everything
is fine and the results as well are satisfying. The main indicator is
the commodity turnover, though we understand that the quality of it is
quite important as well and it is worth mentioning that it does not
fall but grows", - said the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation.
According to him, there is also an unused investment resource.

Tigran Sargsyan and Dmitry Medvedev agreed that the Russian side would
discuss its participation in the donor conference with the European
Union and the World Bank, where they would touch upon the program
financing, which was a priority issue for the Republic of Armenia. The
Prime Minister of Armenia highlighted this problem and received the
    support of his Russian colleague.

The Prime Ministers of Armenia and Russia discussed as well the
construction of the new nuclear power unit in Armenia. The
interlocutors clarified the bilateral actions made in this direction.
It is expected that the Russian side participates in the financial
assistance of the construction of the new nuclear power unit, so the
Prime Ministers discussed the financial schemes, with which Russia
would participate in the process and how the Armenian side would
accomplish its financial obligations after the construction and
    utilization of the power unit.

Instructions were given to the corresponding agencies to discuss the
proposal of the Armenian side and clarify the financial mechanisms of
the unit construction. Tigran Sargsyan and Dmitry Medvedev touched
upon the diamond production development between the two countries. As
Armenia has already validated the CIS Free Trade Agreement, the
parties discussed issues related to the attenuation of some regimes.

The Armenian party proposed Russia to revise the 6,5% import tax for
raw diamond for Armenia, in the response to which Dmitry Medvedev
instructed the relevant bodies to discuss the issue.

A working group was agreed to be established, headed by the Ministers
of Economy of the two countries, which would discuss the ways and
programs of strengthening and extension of the Armenian-Russian
    economic relations.
