    On October 1 Artak Davtyan, Head of Armenia-Germany Friendship Group
    had a meeting with Wolfgang Thierse, Vice President of the Bundestag
    of the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG).

    Welcoming the Vice President of the Bundestag in the Armenian
    Parliament, Artak Davtyan has noted that the Armenian side very highly
    appreciates the Armenian-German relations, and such meetings has to
    be used to touch upon the voluminous opportunities of cooperation in
    different spheres.

    He has expressed hope that Wolfgang Thierse's visit to Armenia, the
    occasion of which is the 20th anniversary of the establishment of
    diplomatic relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Federal
    Republic of Germany, would give a new impetus to the friendly relations
    of two countries, and on the basis of them the priority would be the
    National Assembly-Bundestag cooperation.

    Thanking for warm reception the Vice President of the Bundestag
    also highlighted the big potential of the German Bundestag, also
    touching upon the opportunities of reinforcing the inter-parliamentary
    relations, calling into life joint initiatives.

    The sides touched upon the activation of the students' exchange
    programmes, the Armenian-Turksih relations, as well as the possible
    role of Germany in the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement, discussed
    other issues of mutual interest too.

    Artak Davtyan informed the guest that in the National Assembly of
    Armenia the month October would be marked with a number of events,
    which would give an opportunity to a conclusion that the month could
    be called German.
