BAKU CHERISHES ILLUSION FOR NEW WAR IN KARABAKH - ARMENIAN PRESIDENT

    November 28, 2012 - 15:22 AMT

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian President expressed hope that a stable
development in Arab world will become possible through peaceful means.

As Serzh Sargsyan stressed during his meeting with the students and
professors of Haigazian University, American University of Beirut,
Lebanese American University and St. Joseph University Beirut,
the security of South Caucasus and Near East regions is closely
    interconnected.

Dwelling on Nagorno Karabakh conflict, the President noted that the
people of Artsakh had never put up with the forceful annexation to
    Azerbaijan, initiated by Soviet authorities.

"Following collapse of the Soviet Union, the attempts of Azeri
authorities to stifle the free will of Artsakh people met an adequate
response," the President said, slamming Azerbaijan for refusal to
compromise, their petrodollars giving them a false illusion of a
possibility of a new war in Artsakh.

Armenian President further criticized Azeri armament race and constant
attempts at escalation of conflict through attacks at contact line,
with Baku undermining efforts of a peaceful settlement through
    a dialogue.

"Despite Azeri steps, Armenia adheres to negotiated settlement of the
issue, in full realization that the war will be disastrous not only for
parties involved but also the region as a whole," the Armenian leader
said, hailing Lebanon's balanced stance on Nagorno Karabakh conflict.
