ARMENIAN OPPOSITION MP SPEAKS OF HIS NEW DRAFT

The articles entitled 'Ground Zero' and 'Political year kicks off'
by Nikol Pashinyan, an MP from the opposition bloc Armenian National
Congress (ANC), are putting forward an idea of starting the opposition
struggle "at ground zero." Mr Pashinyan has issued a statement on
the draft of a civil package to be presented.
Tert.am talked to Mr Pashinyan to find out what the document actually
implies. However, Mr Pashinyan refused to "remove all the brackets"
not to impede the work at the package. Mr Pashinyan also refused
to make any comments on yesterday's interview by Armenia's first
president Levon Ter-Petrosyan or the present situation within the ANC.
Question: You have announced your intention to present a draft of a
civil package, hoping for a debate by all the interested parties. What
kind of draft is it?
Answer: I would not like to discuss the document before it is
published. As I noted in my statement, "the present priority is a talk
about organizing further civil struggle for free and happy Armenia."
Since I believe that I am responsible to Armenian citizens, I can
say that certain ideas of further struggle will be incorporated in
the document.
Question: If so, why do you need public discussions? To see who are
supporting you? Is the ANC supporting you or not?
Answer: Public discussions are necessary because any civil struggle
implies public support.
Question: What is the format? How are you going to find supporters?
Answer: The document will contain answers to all the questions.
Question: That is you are going to publish it and wait for others to
accede to it? Have you presented it to the Armenian National Congress?
Answer: I would not like to say more than my statement says. All the
discussions will be held after the draft has been published.
Question: When is it going to happen?
Answer: Soon
Question: Will it "be effective" during the presidential election?
Answer: I cannot make forecasts. But the document will not be
"too late."
Question: Can this document be considered your attempt to change the
format of struggle?
Answer: I would not like to make any assessments. Since the work on
the document has not yet been completed, I would not like to make
any comments that might affect the work. Some issues have not yet
been completely formulated.
Question: You, as well as Sasun Mikaelyan (in yesterday's issue of the
Haykakan Zhamanak newspaper he was harshly critical of the ANC and its
leader Levon Ter-Petrosyan for his policy in the past year), remain an
ANC member. Do not you think the draft should be agreed with the ANC?
Answer: I would not like to make any comments though I am well aware
of the interest.
Question: Are there any political forces or individuals that cannot
be involved in your initiativet?
Answer: I think you know the answer better than I. This is a rather
large document.
Question: In his yesterday's interview Levon Ter-Petrosyan stated
that the ANC has no legal successor. Do you share his opinion?
Answer: I would not like to make comments on his interview.
