On the occasion of the Armenian Army Day, the leader of the opposition
Heritage party visited on Monday the military cemetery Yerablur to
pay respect to the heroes of the Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) war.

Raffi Hovhannisyan first visited the graves of his deceased friends
and laid flowers on the memorial to the unknown martyrs. He then
approached tombs that had no visitors at all.

"My honor during war years was that I just had meetings with several
    freedom fighters and probably visited the front, but not with weapons;
that's my fault and mistake," the politician said, when talking to
reporters near the grave of Monte Melkonyan, the legendary Artsakh
war hero killed on the battlefield in 1993.

Praising all the war heroes, Hovhannisyan noted that neither Armenia
nor Artsakh would exist today without their feats. "On this day,
January the 28th, I remind myself of the idea that the Armenian
nation is capable of protecting its interest. When the people turn
into a nation and the citizen into statehood, our losses will not be
    considered vain," he said.

Hovhannisyan, who stands as a candidate in the February presidential
election, considered the meeting an occasion calling for modesty,
obedience and dignity. "This is our homeland, with both its positive
and negative [sides], and we all are proud of our army today. We have
mistakes which need a correction," he added.
