WHERE GAGIK TSARUKYAN WILL DIRECT HIS ELECTORATE

    Story from Lragir.am News:

Today, head of ARF parliamentary group Armen Rustamyan made a
noteworthy statement at the parliament. He said that the political
forces should draw conclusions from this situation and understand that
it is necessary to unite against fake elections with a joint agenda.

ARF, the Armenian National Congress, as well as a number of other
political forces and figures call the elections a show and so explain
their decision not to run. However, none of them explains the causes
of the farce and the ways to overcome it. They usually note the social
and political dependence of people who are ready to sell their votes
for 10,000 AMD or a promise that they will keep their jobs.

The presidential candidate Andrias Ghukasyan points out the source. He
says the participation of the ruling Republican Party which has already
rigged a number of elections will rig the next elections. He demands
RPA's withdrawal from the race, which will ensure equal competition.

This seems like fantasy at first sight until the experience of other
countries is studied. Let's remember the USSR where the Communist Party
was not allowed to run for parliament after Russia's independence. It
was outlawed for persecution under Stalin, expropriation and the
establishment of a one-party system in the USSR.

The participation of the Communist Party would have ruled out the
possibility of change of government and election of democratic forces.

The same thing happened in Armenia when ARF was banned, and certain
forces were able to come to power.

Independent from the purpose, both good and bad, the parties were
outlawed. This is a political technology, and often the only condition
for the emergence of new forces in power.

Today, public organizations organized a flash mob with the slogan
"no fake elections". Andrias Ghukasyan joined. He appealed to the
Central Electoral Commission to withdraw the registration of Serzh
Sargsyan's nomination but was refused. And now the only way to achieve
the withdrawal of the Republican Party is perhaps boycott of elections.

Armen Rustamyan says he will go to the polling station and vote
"against everyone", though there is no such an option. We suppose that
the ARF and Congress will call on their voters to follow them. They
think this is a means of boycott but it is not so. Although it may
be considered as a political position.

What will Prosperous Armenia do about its half a million voters? A
lot depends on this electorate, especially if they are appealed not to
vote. Does the PAP consider the election a farce like ARF and Congress
do or is it preparing for the post-electoral coalition with the RPA?
