Iranian ambassador to Armenia Mohammad Reisi told the reporters on
Tuesday that the contract on providing Syunik province's pastures to
Iran for rent has not been signed. "No contract has been signed yet.

May be there is some misunderstanding," he said.

Asked who the proposal belongs to - Armenian side, or Iranian - the
ambassador said, "With the biggest probability, it belongs to the
Iranian side," but added that the proposal stems from the interests
of both Iran and Armenia, adding that the number of cattle in Armenia
    will grow.

The Iranian ambassador said though Armenia is agriculturally developed
country, the number of cattle here is not satisfactory. He said
according to his personal survey, it is possible to make their number
    reach up to 7 million.

After reporting about it, the ambassador said Iran is a good market
for meat export, with Armenia being very close to it.

Mohammad Reisi said it will give an opportunity to export 2-3 million
    live sheep to Iran.

The ambassador also said that both parties cannot secretly sign
contract, stressing that it should be ratified by the NA as well. The
ambassador stressed that the program will be mutually beneficial both
    for Armenia and Iran.

On July 10, 2012 Syunik governor Suren Khachatryan signed a memorandum
on cooperation in the sphere of agriculture which intends provision
of Syunik province's pastures to Iran for rent for sheep breeding
    with 10-year term.

A number of NGOs and environmental organizations voiced their concerns
    about it.
