PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS IN ARMENIA SHOULD TAKE PLACE ON TIME - CONSTITUTIONAL COURT

    Interfax, Russia
    Feb 11 2013

Armenian presidential candidate Patuir Airikyan can no longer ask the
Constitutional Court to reschedule the date of presidential elections,
Constitutional Court press secretary Ovaness Papikyan told Interfax.

"The deadline for a candidate's request to the Constitutional Court is
February 10. According to the constitution, a presidential candidate
can go to the Constitutional Court eight days before the elections,"
    Papikyan said.

Earlier on Monday, a lawyer for Airikyan recalled from the
Constitutional Court his claim seeking the postponement of the
presidential elections, which are scheduled to take place in Armenia
on February 18. The claim was filed by Airikyan on Sunday.

Airikyan survived an assassination attempt on January 31. He was
    wounded in the shoulder.

According to the Armenian constitution, elections are postponed by
two weeks if insurmountable obstacles arise for a candidate.
