EUROPEAN UNION'S STATISTICAL SERVICE SUPPORT PROJECT SUCCESSFULLY IMPLEMENTED IN ARMENIA

    YEREVAN, February 13. /ARKA/. The European Union's two-year Twinning
project called Support to the National Statistical Service of the
Republic of Armenia has been successfully implemented in Armenia,
Claudia Junker, head of the Statistical Cooperation Unit of Eurostat,
said Wednesday at the project completion ceremony.

She said that the project has been implemented by joint efforts of
the National Statistical Service of Armenia and the Eurostat.

She said the statistical agencies have managed to make the progress in
this area visible, to make statistical studies precise and independent
and to bring this area in tune with European quality standards.

Traian Hristea, head of the EU Delegation in Armenia, speaking at
the same event, rated highly the EU Twinning.

He said EU programs can establish a closer dialogue between Armenia
and European countries, and this will propel development of Armenia's
    national statistical institution.

Tigran Davtyan, Armenian economy minister, on his side, said the
program is an important instrument for supporting Armenia's national
statistical agency. He said the project had a positive effect on
    state-governing institutions.

He stressed that the European Union has allocated ~@1 million for
supporting statistical services of Armenia, Denmark, Germany, Finland,
    Latvia, Lithuania and Sweden.

TWINNING projects launched in Armenia in 2009 as part of the European
Union's European Neighborhood mechanism, which implies institutional
reforms in governing agencies and legislative changes. -0-
