    Armenia to continue active participation in CIS activities

    YEREVAN February 15


    - Armenia will continue active participation in the activities of the
    Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Armenian Foreign Minister
    Edvard Nalbandyan said at a meeting with Sergei Lebedev, the visiting
    chairman of the CIS Executive Committee and the CIS Executive
    Secretary, on Thursday.

    "Armenia attaches great important to the CIS role in strengthening and
    expansion of cooperation among the CIS member states. It will continue
    its active participation in all directions of the organization's
    activities," Nalbandyan went on to say.

    Lebedev praised Armenia for its participation in the CIS activities.
    He said he was satisfied with fruitful cooperation between the
    republic's representatives and the Commonwealth's Executive Committee.

    Sergei Lebedev, who will head the CIS observer mission at the
    forthcoming presidential elections in Armenia on Monday, February 18,
    said that about 210 CIS observers would monitor the elections in
    Yerevan and other parts of the country.

    The Armenian foreign minister and the CIS executive secretary
    discussed cooperation within the Commonwealth and preparation of
    meetings of the organization's charter bodies, the Armenian Foreign
    Ministry reports.
