Free and fair elections remain just a dream for Armenia, Armen
Martirosyan, candidate for Mayor of Yerevan from Barev Yerevan bloc,
told media, Friday, summing up the election campaign.
He said that like during the parliamentary and presidential election,
in the course of the current campaign there were also many violations,
starting from tearing of the bloc's posters, up to misuse of
administrative resource and bribery.
"However, police officers pretend as if they do not see this outrage.
In the meanwhile, the posters of the Republican Party candidate,
Mayor Taron Margaryan are hanged at the school No.130. Parents of
pupils and children attending kindergartens are called for voting in
favor of the RPA," Martirosyan said. The politician hopes the bloc
will receive 41% of votes at the upcoming elections to the Elders'
Council of Yerevan, or, at least, will be the leader of the elections.
Commenting on possibility of creating a post-election bloc, Martirosyan
said that there are real opportunities for consolidation of the
opposition after the elections.
"Everything will depend on how the political forces will display
themselves on the voting day. Our members of election commissions and
proxies have been charged to cooperate with everyone who will try to
keep normal voting process," he said.
The elections will be held on May 5. The Armenian Office of Gallup
International Association has questioned 1,066 people, who have given
41% to the RPA, 14.5% to Prosperous Armenia, 7.9% to Barev Yerevan
Bloc, 3.7% to Orinats Yekir, 2.9% to Armenian National Congress, 3.1%
to ARFD, 0.3% to Arakelutyun Party.
The survey held by the Armenian Sociological Association among 1,000
people in Yerevan has found out that on May 5 the RPA may secure 48.3%
of the votes, Prosperous Armenia 18.1%, Barev Yerevan Bloc 7.4%,
Armenian National Congress 4.4%, Orinats Yerkir 4.2%, ARFD 2.2%. The
turnout will be 60-80%.
