ARMENIAN GOVERNMENT'S DECISION THREAT TO FISH-FARMS - NGO REP

    14:16 ~U 24.06.13

Artur Atoyan, Chairman of the Armenian Fish-Farmers Union NGO,
is concerned over the fact that the Armenian government's recent
decision pertaining to fish-farming poses a threat to small and medium
    businesses (SMB).

Specifically, the government's decision implies excessive expenses
for fish companies, which cannot afford such expenses and will have
to stop working. According to him, 57 of the 234 fish-farms operating
in Armenia have been closed. Ninety-nine of the rest companies are
considered to be small companies, and they must not be liable to
    any commitments.

The reason for the government's decision is water saving. "Yes,
we must save our water resources. But we have a traditional offer -
    water recycling without additional expenses."

"Fish-farms are facing uncertainty because of this decision,"
    Atoyan said.
