And the falsifiers of history will not be able to change the course
of events
On July 17, a meeting of MPs of the state of New South Wales of
Australia and representatives of the Hay Dat Committee of Australia
with the NKR MPs took place at the NKR National Assembly.
Representatives of the NKR executive and judicial structures, political
and scientific circles were invited to the meeting.
On behalf of the Republic's authorities, NKR NA Chairman Ashot Ghulian
warmly greeted the honorable guests. The delegation included New South
Wales MP, Chairman of the Armenian-Australian Parliamentary Friendship
Group Jonathan O`Dean, an activist fighting for the recognition of
the Armenian Genocide and the NKR Marie Fikara - a member of the
Legislative Council, Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister,
the defender of the rights of the Armenian people; in 2012, she made
a proposal at the Parliament of the state on recognizing the NKR,
Gladys Beredzhiklyan - MP, the first Australian Armenian woman elected
to the Parliament of the state, now the Minister of Transport of the
Government of New South Wales, Fred Nile - a member of the Legislative
Council, Assistant Chairman of the Board, a representative of the
Christian-Democratic Party, a supporter of the recognition of the
Armenian Genocide and the right of the NKR to self-determination
(repeatedly made statements at the Legislative Council), Amanda
Fazio - a member of the Legislative Council, opposition Secretary of
the Council, defender of the interests of Armenia and the Armenian
community of Australia, David Clark - a member of the Legislative
Council, Parliamentary Secretary on justice, an active member of
Armenia-Australia Parliamentary Friendship Group.
Then, Mr. Ghulian presented our compatriots from Australia:
Grigor Soghomonian - honorable Chairman of the Hai Dat Committee
who occupied top positions over 40 years in leading major companies
of the world, Vache Ghahramanian - Director General of the Hai Dat
Committee of Australia, and Stepan Abulakian - responsible for the
relations with the community of the Hai DatCommittee of Australia. The
guests were accompanied by NKR Permanent Representative to Australia
Varuzhan Iskenderian. Representatives of the Armenian community also
arrived in the Republic of Artsakh with the delegation.
The NKR Parliament Speaker expressed his gratitude to
the initiators and organizers of the visit, members of the Hai Dat
Committee of Australia, the persons accompanying the delegation,
and leader of Armenia-Australia Friendship Group of the RA National
Assembly Shushan Petrossian. He thanked once more the legislature
body of the state of New South Wales for the unanimous adoption of the
October 25, 2012 resolution proposed by Marie Fikara. The resolution
recognizes the independence of the NKR and the right of our people
to self-determination. They also called upon the Australian House of
Representatives to officially recognize the NKR and to consolidate
the relations of Australia with the NKR. Mr.
Ghulian also noted that the Parliament of New South Wales is one of
the most active advocates of Armenian issues.
The NA Chairman drew attention to the fact that over the
years we have received delegations from Australia, but today we have
quite an authoritative delegation from the state of New South Wales
and the meeting actually lays the ground for future cooperation.

Group Jonathan O`Dean noted that despite the long journey here and
the language barrier, the distance between the parties is very small.
He was surrounded by friends and admired the people's ability to
listen. He also noted the importance of the fact that the delegation
comprised representatives of several parties of Australia. They have
different points of view on certain issues, being unanimous on the
Artsakh issue. During the one-week visit, he managed to familiarize
with the history and culture of the Armenian people, as well as to
make sure of Armenians' peculiarity. In the few days, Mr. O`Dean made
an idea of Armenia and Artsakh.
Wishing the meeting participants all the best on behalf of
Australians, he noted that basing on friendship we can achieve great
success and reach the goals through cooperation. He is encourages
by the fact that the Parliament of New South Wales was the first to
recognize the independence of the NKR and the right of the Karabakh
people to self-determination. "We have great respect for your people,
which has suffered many difficulties, a war, and is ready today to
resolve the Karabakh conflict in a peaceful way", he said.
The next speaker was Chairwoman of Armenia-Australia
Parliamentary Friendship Group, Minister of Transport of New South
Wales Gledis Berejiklyan. She made quite a big contribution to the
development and prosperity of the state, as well as to the selfless
service to the native people. Born in Australia, but being
Armenian, she wanted to say kind words to the Australians who think
like Armenians and who are interested in the Karabakh issue. She
arrived in Artsakh for the first time 9 years ago. And coming here
again, she was struck by the changes taken place and was very proud
of the country's achievements
Representative of the Christian-Democratic Party of
Australia Fred Nile was impressed by the warm and cordial reception
of the people of Artsakh. He expressed his sympathies towards the
Armenian people, which first adopted Christianity at the state level
and remains true to the Christian values. He stressed the importance of
adopting the resolution on the recognition of the NKR by the Parliament
of the state, noting that the complaints and criticism of the Turkish
consulate in his address had no value for him.
Member of the Legislative Council of the state Amanda Fazio
admired the capital town of Stepanakert, calling it a picturesque
place. In her speech, she noted the importance of the struggle of
the people living here. They cannot be indifferent to such issues
as the struggle of the NKR people for self-determination and the
Armenian Genocide. According to Mr. Fazio, several members of the
delegation will leave Karabakh for Cyprus to state his support for
their struggle. She wished the people of Artsakh success in its
international recognition and in building a prosperous country.
Then, speeches were made by David Clark and Marie Fikara.
Mr. Clark appreciated the protection of human rights in the NKR
and consolidation of democratic processes. The Armenian nation has
experienced many trials and was persecuted, but it did not give in
and continues the struggle for freedom and its rights. According to
him, the faith of the Armenian people will never run out. As of the
recognition of the Armenian Genocide, they have done their utmost, but
will not limit with this. "The falsifiers of history, in particular,
those who refuse to recognize the Armenian Genocide, will continue
their work, but normal people will always state the contrary - the
Genocide was committed and it should be recognized", he said.
According to Mr. Clark, the Armenian people is one of the most heroic
peoples of the world and its heroic will will never be broken.

Marie Fikara noted first of all that the fate of the Armenian people
is very close to the heart of Australians. The Karabakh people can be
proud of its achievements for the 21 years. The people has lived on
this land for millenniums and will continue to live. It shed sweat
on this land and got what it has today. "We recognize this fact
and all that are available on this land belong only to you, and
you have the right to defend them. I'm sure that civilized
democratic countries recognize your right", noted Mrs. Fikara. She
called stability and peace in the region the most important values.
According to her, the resolution on the recognition of the independence
of the NKR adopted by the Parliament of New South Wales initiated a
process that should have a logical continuation.
Concluding her speech, Mrs. Fikara, on behalf of the
delegation and the Parliament of the state, handed the memorial
plaque with the text of the resolution on the recognition of the NKR
independence to the NKR National Assembly.
