ARMENIA IS NOT INCLINED TO IDEA OF NATIONAL CARRIER - OFFICIAL

    August 16, 2013 | 02:18

YEREVAN. - Armenia is not inclined to the idea of having national
carrier, a civil aviation official said.

Armenia's General Department of Civil Aviation has not invited contest
for different routes remaining vacant after Armavia's withdrawal
from the market, head of staff of the Department Sahak Hakobyan told
    Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Earlier the largest Armenian airline stopped flights due to financial
    difficulties.

As explained by Hakobyan, contests will be announced after McKinsey
& Company, an international consulting company, will complete the
analysis and will submit results to the Armenian government. The date
when work is completed has not been reported yet, and the contract
    was signed in July.

"In any case, I can say that the idea of the national carrier will
not be necessarily accepted. Strictly speaking, such a legal term
does not exist. When used referring to Armavia, the term was more
of a cliche exploited by media. The rights and duties including this
definition have not been specified in any document," he said.

Most likely, the civil aviation department will announce competition
for individual directions. The public services in emergency situations
will be discussed with each individual carrier, Sahakyan added.

National Competitiveness Foundation of Armenia headed by and McKinsey
& Company signed an agreement to elaborate a program in order to
increase competitiveness of air transport. One of possible carriers
    is Air Armenia company.
