Generally, the situation doesn't much differ from that of
the last year. Harvesting is finished in the most part of the
corresponding area, the harvest amounting to about 80.000 tons. The
sphere's officials are, however, optimistic, hoping to exceed the
last year index. Corn harvesting is expected. Corn cultivation wasn't
    accepted in Artsakh at once.

The majority of land cultivators accepted the innovation only after
making sure of the efficiency of other's experience. As a result,
this year's area under corn occupies about 12% of the area under
crops. "While in 2007 only 0,6%, or about 300 hectares, were allocated
for corn, in 2013, the area made over 7000 hectares of land", noted
Deputy Minister of Agriculture Karen Aghajanian..

"Over years, not just the areas under corn are expanded, but also
the yield rates are increased. The sphere's officials do not hurry
giving any figures for this year, though carefully noting that there
were all the opportunities for exceeding the previous year's index.

The average corn yield in 2012 made 38,8 centners from a hectare. This
year's weather conditions were quite favorable for corn, even the
summer rains taken place a short period", said the deputy minister.

Along with expanding the sowing area, the corresponding technical
equipment for corn cultivation is also purchased. The deputy minister
of agriculture considers the existing equipment sufficient for
organizing lossless corn harvesting. "22 combine harvesters will be
used for harvesting. Considering also our climatic conditions, due
to which the works will be conducted stage-by-stage, we can be sure
that the available equipment is enough for lossless corn harvesting.

Moreover, unlike barley and wheat, corn beans do not spill after
    ripening", noted Mr. Aghajanian.

Currently, the last preparatory works are carried out.

There are just a few days left before corn harvesting. The works will
    start in late August.
