Two `Spartacus' performances to close Bodrum ballet festival
The Russian State Ballet of Siberia will stage `Spartacus' in Bodrum.

The Bodrum International Ballet Festival is preparing for a
high-profile farewell to its 11th edition this week, with the two
remaining performances in this year's program set for Tuesday and
Wednesday nights in the historic Bodrum Castle.
The Russian State Ballet of Siberia is bringing its production of the
famous ballet `Spartacus' to the southwestern holiday town as the last
two pieces in the festival's program.
Composed in 1954 by Armenian composer Aram Khachaturian, the ballet
recounts the story of Spartacus, the Thracian gladiator who led a
slave uprising against the Romans.
The ballet `Spartacus,' whose score includes themes from Armenian folk
music, is one of the most famous pieces by Khachaturian, who is
considered one of the three `titans' of Soviet music alongside Sergei
Prokofiev and Dmitri Shostakovich.
First staged in 1956 in Leningrad, the first-ever performance of the
piece at the prestigious Bolshoi Theatre took place in 1958 with
choreography by the acclaimed Igor Moiseyev.
The Russian State Ballet of Siberia's production features choreography
by Yury Grigorovich, who first presented this choreography in 1968 to
huge critical acclaim. A rotating cast of dancers Ivan Karnaukhov and
Demid Zykov plays the role of Spartacus in the ballet.
This year's Bodrum Ballet Festival got under way on Aug. 7 and
featured five productions in total, staged on seven nights at the
15th-century Bodrum Castle. The festival is organized annually by the
Ankara-based State Opera and Ballet Directorate General (DOBGM). For
