Outcry in Germany as Abraham awarded highly contentious wide points
    win over Shihepo

    by Jordan Stoddart

The Boxing Observer: August 25, 2013 - Former middleweight ruler
Arthur Abraham was lucky to walk away with a highly dubious points win
against the unheralded Wilberforce Shihepo over in Germany tonight.
The Namibian took the fight to the German-based Armenian right from
the off, and appeared to be in a healthy position going into the
second half of the bout. Although he visibly tired and took some
decent punches late on, it was clear the visitor had produced the
better performance and the better overall work-rate with a lackluster
Abraham seemingly not taking into account the severity of his current
predicament amongst the worlds elite fighters. As is the case in
Germany all too often, the home fighter was awarded an absurdly wide
points win to further heap more negativity on a result which should
have been career defining for the durable visitor.

British judges Mickey Vann and Richard James Davies somehow scored it
111-117 and 113-116 respectively, with Manuel Oliver Palomo's card of
112-116 prompting the partisan crowd to loudly boo the decision, a
very rare occurrence that further compounded the nature of the
Sauerland fighters controversial victory. Abraham (37(28)-4) stated
pre-fight he would retire if he could not beat Shihepo, and based on
this performance it should be suggested that an honest chat with
trainer Ulli Wegner should take place before any notion of a trilogy
fight with nemesis Robert Stieglitz. Shihepo now unfortunately drops
to 20(15)-7, but can hopefully secure another big fight based on his
impressive and gutsy performance on the undercard of the Pulev v
    Thompson card earlier tonight.
