LAWYER: GOVERNMENT TRYING TO INTERFERE IN THE WORK OF LAWYERS

The Government often tries to interfere in the activity of the Chamber
of Lawyers of Armenia, Ara Zohrabyan, a candidate for the position
of the head of the Chamber, told media, Tuesday. The new head of the
Chamber will have to neutralize the government's interference in the
work of the Chamber for independent activity of lawyers.
Among other problems of the Chamber Zohrabyan outlined overloading of
the public defenders that affects the quality the investigated cases.
In addition, Zohrabyan came out for opening of the Chamber's offices in
the regions for better cooperation of lawyers throughout the country.
If elected, Zohrabyan promises to contribute to protection of the
rights of lawyers and to upgrading of their professional skills. The
election of the Head of the Chamber of Lawyers will be held ion 14
September. So far, there are four candidates for the given position.
Over 1300 active lawyers are expected to vote.
