ARMENIA FACES CHOICE OF POLITICAL VECTOR - ALEXANDER VASILYEV

First Secretary of the Russian Embassy in Armenia Alexander Vasilyev,
who participated in the roundtable 'Toward the European Union',
commented on Armenia's intention to initial an association agreement
with the European Union (EU).
He noted that a busy autumn is ahead in terms of political vector.
"I think the right choice will be made," he said.
"Society is debating over integration. Many use mass media to claim
that both the structures - the EU and the Eurasian Union - are
complementary. But we actually see quite the opposite. Our western
partners sometimes allow themselves speeches that do not reflect the
reality. Let us not forget the Polish representatives' statements that
the 'both...and' option is impossible, and choosing the 'either...or'
option was a must," Vasilyev said.
He also expressed concern over the secret content of the association
agreement.
"No one has seen the agreement. There are doubts about the terms
they are concealing from society. Some officials and diplomats
assume that the agreement contains tough terms. It is obvious that
there are restrictions. We are concerned over that though Armenian
society claims that the two structures are complementary. However,
there are doubts that it is quite the opposite."
