LITHUANIA RECALLS AMBASSADORS OVER KARABAKH ROW

    17:18 29.08.13

The Lithuanian president has signed a decree for recalling the
ambassadors to Hungary and Azerbaijan over what is thought to be
personal statements about the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The decision was made after phone conversations between Ambassadors
Renatas JuÅ¡ka and ArtÅ"ras Žurauskas and their colleagues in Vilnius
appeared on YouTube, disclosing their position on the problem, RIA
Novosti reported. The diplomats are said to have exchanged personal
remarks about the Armenian-Azerbaijani relations, making jokes about
Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas ButkeviÄ~Mius scheduled trip to
    St Petersburg, Russia.

Juška reportedly admitted openly that he supports the Armenians
in the conflict, considering them "another Christian nation which
suffered losses because of Stalin's maps, as we did."

The ambassadors have been recalled under a government proposal.

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas LinkeviÄ~Mius said the diplomats
have no more chances to continue their mission under the circumstances.

He admitted in the meantime that the illegal recording and publication
of the phone talk amounts to an information provocation.

But a former foreign minister of Lithuania, Audronius Ažubalis,
has criticized the move, considering it a sign that the country's
government can easily succumb to any manipulation.
