ARMENIAN PARLIAMENT UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTS AMNESTY PROPOSAL

    13:39 ~U 03.10.13

Armenia's National Assembly unanimously approved the president-proposed
amnesty bill at its Thursday session.

The measure was passed with 102 votes in favor; none of the parliament
    members voted 'against'.

The proposal will enter into force within 24 hours after being signed
by NA President Hovik Abrahamyan. It will have a direct effect on all
the convicts who do not fall under restrictions. Minister of Justice
Hrayr Tovmasyan had earlier said that some 400-500 individuals are
expected to be freed from jail under the measure.

The proposal, dedicated to the 22nd anniversary of Armenia's
independence was submitted to parliament by President Serzh Sargsyan
    last Monday.

The process of releasing convicts is expected to last until December
    25.
