Popular diplomacy unlikely to lead to conflict resolution, experts say

    2 November 2013 - 8:23pm

The special envoy for international cultural cooperation of the
Russian President, Mikhail Shvydkoy, said at the 3rd Baku
International Humanitarian Forum that Azerbaijani and Armenian
intellectuals have been invited to a meeting, which will anticipate
talks between the two countries over the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Vestnik Kavkaza discussed the issue with Armenian and Azerbaijani experts.

According to Azerbaijani political analyst Professor Fikret Sadykhov,
such popular diplomacy is unlikely to be successful.

Similar meetings have already been held and have never led to any
changes in the situation surrounding the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict,
    the expert underlines.

His approach is shared by Armenian expert Sergey Minasyan. According
to him, such a meeting cannot lead to a resolution of the conflict,
but can establish a atmosphere of dialogue and mutual trust.
