Turkey denies planning to reopen border with Armenia

    BAKU. Nov 8

The Turkish Foreign Ministry has denied media reports that Turkey
plans to open its border with Armenia, closed by Ankara in the early
90s in protest against Armenia's occupation of Nagorno-Karabakh and
    surrounding Azeri districts.

"This is untrue," a statement from the Turkish Embassy in Baku quoted
ministry spokesman Levent Gumrukcu as saying.

"Turkey wants peace in the Caucasus. For this reason, our country,
along with its efforts in seeking an end to the occupation of Azeri
territory, approves of any measure to boost regional cooperation," the
    statement said.

However, Turkey will not reopen its border with Armenia without the
consent of Azerbaijan, according to Gumrukcu.
