CONSERVATIVE PARTY OF ARMENIA PROTESTS AGAINST RUSSIAN PRESIDENT'S PLANS TO VISIT ARMENIA ON DAY WHEN TREATY OF ALEXANDROPOL WAS SIGNED

    ARMINFO
    Wednesday, November 13, 00:34

The Conservative Party of Armenia protests against the Russian
President's plans to visit Armenia on Dec 2 - the day when the Treaty
    of Alexandropol was signed.

"Dec 2 is a tragic and humiliating page in our history, and the
refusal to change the date of the visit will be a move against the
Armenian people and statehood," the party says.

The Treaty of Alexandropol was signed in Alexandropol (present-day
Gyumri) on Dec 2 1920 by the Kemalists, who were not yet a recognized
regime in Turkey, and the government of the First Republic, who de
facto were no longer in power in Armenia. The Treaty gave Turkey
21,000 sq km of Armenia's territory. The government of the Armenian
SSR refused to recognize the treaty.

Quite recently President of the Union of Armenians of Russia Ara
Abrahamyan said that President Putin might visit Armenia on Dec 2.

When asked by ArmInfo for a comment, the press service of the Kremlin
said they had no such information.
