Armenian farm produce, brandy to replace Moldovan counterparts in
    Russian market - official

    MINSK. Oct 10

A Russian representative in the Eurasian Economic Commission on Friday
said Armenian agricultural produce and brandy would replace their
Moldovan counterparts in the Russian market because of Moldova's
alleged departure from a free trade agreement with Russia without
    giving advance notice to Moscow.

Tatyana Volovaya, who is a member of the commission's integration and
macroeconomics unit in the Eurasian Economic Commission, said Moldova
had violated its free trade deal with Russia without notifying the
latter and that this had forced Russia to take measures to protect its
    interests.

"One of the effects of it is a decrease in trade between the two
countries, which began before the Ukrainian events," she said.

She claimed that Moldovan agricultural produce and brandy are similar
to their Armenian counterparts. "Naturally, in that case the Armenian
business of supplying agricultural produce and brandy will take up a
significant part of the Russian market, replacing goods from Moldova,"
    she said.

Earlier on Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin had criticized
Moldova for not discussing the potential effects of its association
agreement with the European Union on Russian-Moldovan economic
    relations before signing the pact.
