GERMANY RESPECTS ARMENIA'S DECISION TO JOIN EEU AND READY FOR FURTHER COOPERATION UNDER EU EASTERN PARTNERSHIP - FOREIGN MINISTRY

YEREVAN, October 24./ARKA/. Germany respects Armenia's decision to join
the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) and is ready to deepen cooperation
with Yerevan in the framework of the EU Eastern partnership program,
German foreign minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier at his joint-press
conference with Armenian FM Edward Nalbandyan in Yerevan.

On October 10 Armenia signed the EEU treaty that comes in force on
    January 1, 2015.

Steinmeier also stressed the importance of developing bilateral
relations and pointed to close ties between Armenia and Germany.

"Germany is one of the most important European partners of Armenia.

Our countries cooperate on key issues like peacekeeping in Afghanistan
and Kosovo", the German minister said.

Eastern Partnership was initiated by Poland and Switzerland and backed
at EU summit in Brussels in 2008. Official approval came in Prague
    in May 2009.

The program aims at closer cooperation between the EU and Ukraine,
Armenia, Moldova, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Belarus. -0--
