Iran, Armenia offer to jointly host 24th Summer Deaflympics

The president of the Islamic Republic of Iran Deaf Sports Federation
(IRIDSF) says Iran and neighboring Armenia have offered to jointly
host the 2021 Summer Deaflympics, also referred to as the 24th Summer
    Deaflympics.

"During a meeting with President of the International Committee of
Sports for the Deaf (ICSD) Valery Rukhledev, ICSD Chief Executive
Officer Dmitry Rebrov and President of Armenian Deaf Sports Committee
Grigor Grigoryan on the sidelines of the 1st World Deaf Wrestling
Cadet and Junior Championships in Armenia (in early October), the
IRIDSF tabled the proposal to host the 24th Summer Deaflympics,"
    Karamollah Alimardani stated on Thursday.

He added that the issue will be discussed at the next ICSD Executive
Board session, and Iran and Armenia will co-host the games if the
    offer wins approval.

Alimardani further noted that Iran will host the men's events while
women's competitions will be staged in Armenia.

The 2013 Summer Deaflympics opened in Bulgaria on July 26, and
concluded on August 4. A team of 82 Iranian athletes were in action
across nine sports. They competed in athletics, soccer, judo, karate,
swimming, volleyball, Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling, table
tennis and taekwondo. Iranians collected 31 medals, including six
gold, four silver and 21 bronze.

Turkey will host the 2017 Summer Deaflympics, officially known as the
    23rd Summer Deaflympics.

The international multi-sport event was first held in Paris in 1924
and now includes almost 5,000 competitors.
