Early in the morning in New York the UN Assembly General elected the 47
members of the newly created "Human Rights Defense Council". Armenia,
Azerbaijan and Georgia had also applied for membership. Armenia wasn't
elected member of the Council, whereas Azerbaijan was.

The countries of Eastern Europe fought hard for membership in the
council. It took them three phases to finish the election. 13 countries
fought for 6 places. Armenia received 70 votes and disqualified from
the first phase. After the second phase only Russia, Poland and Czech
Republic received the necessary amount of votes. And in the third
phase Azerbaijan, Ukraine and Hungary were elected.
